Mari brings more than 25 years’ experience in executive positions at nonprofits working in community economic development, performing arts, and adult literacy/education. As the former president/CEO of Centro Latino for Literacy, she received a 2014 James Irvine Leadership Award in recognition of her work bringing thousands of non-literate Spanish speakers online. She has served as executive director for Levitt Pavilion MacArthur Park, the Coalition for Women’s Economic Development and TELACU Community Capital. Grounded in community based organizations, Mari brings a business acumen to her nonprofit management experience and was the only nonprofit participant accepted to and graduated from the spring 2015 cohort of the Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Business Growth Plan class. She is also a trainer with the Center for Cultural Innovation teaching financial management and business planning to emerging and established artists. Mari has served on numerous local nonprofit boards and national associations, and currently serves on the advisory board of the Adult Literacy X Prize. She holds an MA in Urban Planning from UCLA and a B.A. in Latin American Studies from Brown University. Raised on the Texas-Mexico border, Mari speaks and writes Spanish fluently.
