Promoting the recruitment, mentoring, and success of minority postdocs to diversify the doctoral workforce.
DiverseScholar diversifies the doctoral workforce by promoting the success of underrepresented minority postdoctorates. We have a special emphasis in diversity talent sourcing at the junior faculty level especially in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields to create role models for the growing minority college student population. Our unique community of diverse doctorates use our MinorityPostdoc.org website, read our DiverseScholar original articles, and populate our Doctoral Directory CV database. DiverseScholar is tackling the national problem of STEM workforce diversity by helping recent doctoral graduates with professional development training and proactive recruiting.
Their newest activity, SciCommDiversity.org, aims to diversify the science communication (#SciComm) and journalism fields. The fellowship awards travel funds to attend science journalism/communication conferences. The professional development training encourages minority reporters to learn about STEM/health news stories and also educates minority scientists about science communication skills and careers. Finally, their advocacy and research involves how social media is used to diversify STEM as exemplified by the #BlackInSTEM and #LatinxInSTEM communities.
