The African American Board Leadership Institute (AABLI) was established to develop a pipeline of qualified African American candidates for membership on governing boards. Its mission is to significantly increase the representation of well-qualified African American individuals on boards and in critical board leadership positions, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of governing boards and better reflecting the diversity of the communities they serve.

Las Fotos Project

Donate to this organization

Las Fotos Project’s mission is to elevate the voices of teenage girls & gender-expansive youth from communities of color through photography and mentoring, empowering them to channel their creativity for the benefit of themselves, their community, and future careers.

Las Fotos Project was founded in 2010 by Los Angeles-based photographer Eric V. Ibarra after seeing a need for teenage girls throughout Los Angeles to have a skill that could help build their confidence and self-esteem.  Las Fotos Project has since worked with girls throughout Southern California providing opportunities for those who are both systemically and socially silenced, and has developed partnerships with national and international nonprofit organizations and schools to expand the movement of inspiring teenage girls through photography and self-expression. Our current focus is on the Central, South, and East Los Angeles regions of Los Angeles.

Urban Possibilities

Donate to this organization

Urban Possibilities uses the power of art and culture – from fashion to theatre – to change the lives of homeless and working poor people in Los Angeles.

THINK POTENTIAL

There are more than 36 million in the USA living below the poverty line – that’s about 1 in 10 Americans located in the heart of every major U.S. city. An estimated 225,000 are homeless some time during the year in Los Angeles County alone. Now throw out that old notion of handouts and hopelessness and think vast potential.

WE SERVE URBAN HEROES

Our clients are homeless and working poor men and women living through life’s toughest conditions –who don’t give up. We call them heroes and see the skills they’ve developed to survive poverty, abuse and neglect as a formidable spring- board to a new future.

A NEW POSSIBILITY

Our mission is to help these clients turn the corner on their past and see a new vision of themselves – one inspired by new possibilities. We elevate self-image as a catalyst for change and provide programs that build it- both inside and out!

Girls reimagine a just world by telling their untold stories of gender and sexuality through media.

imMEDIAte Justice is a movement to inspire a new, youth-driven media conversation about sex, gender, love and relationships. We are a volunteer-led organization that empowers girls to access truth and create positive sex education films in a supportive, feminist workshop space. imMEDIAte Justice provides girls with the close community, resources, and training they need to become powerful storytellers and changemakers. Our IMJ Summer Camps create empowered female filmmakers who are writing their own narratives, informing their peers, and changing the face of global media and current sex education.

Circle of Friends…Changing Lives One Friendship at a Time

Every day, thousands of students with developmental disabilities sit alone at lunch, isolated and ignored by fellow classmates.  Through Circle of Friends ~The Path to Inclusion, students with special needs have the opportunity to develop genuine friendships with non-disabled peers.  Nationwide, at all grade levels, Circle of Friends (CoF) establishes social inclusion programs within schools that increase the understanding and acceptance of individual differences and decrease bullying.  CoF integrates students with disabilities into mainstream campus life and helps to expand the new relationships they have formed into the community at large.

Topanga Women’s Circle

Donate to this organization

The Topanga Women’s Circle’s mission is to help families, including many veterans, as they move into transitional housing by creating a warm and comfortable environment for them. We transform bare-bones, institutional space into a home and everything we provide is theirs to keep from pots and pans to books, games, bedding and bath items. The goal for these families is self-sufficiency and residents are helped in their quest to find Section 8 housing in a timely manner, which ultimately means more work for us…more rapid turnover means more move-ins. Last year we created a home for over 75 families.
