The San Fernando Valley Coalition on Gangs has been honored with a national award for the gang prevention and youth safety work they’ve accomplished in partnership with the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Bureau. Selected from more than 540 applicants nationwide, the partnership received a MetLife Foundation Community-Police Partnership Award. The partners’ collaborative approach to improving safety and strengthening community-police relations caught the attention of the national selection committee comprised of police commanders, community development executives and staff from the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) which administers the program. The Coalition has been a fiscally sponsored project of Community Partners since 2006.
